Syracuse, N.Y. — The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry bestowed 375 degrees to students at graduation on Saturday.
The SUNY ESF graduates and their loved ones filled St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview at 2 p.m. on a beautiful sunny spring day.
A total of 330 students received bachelor’s degrees, and about 45 received master’s and doctorate degrees.
Environmental activist Anne Therese Gennari was the commencement speaker. Gennari wrote The Climate Optimist Handbook and is a TEDx speaker, podcaster and educator.
The top students in each department were awarded departmental honors at the ceremony.
The students were:
- Barbara H. Wilburn of Mohawk, New York (Chemical Engineering)
- Sarah Crane of Clifton Springs, New York (Chemistry)
- Benjamin P. Carguello of Pulaski, New York (Environmental Biology)
- Jane Clark of Syracuse, New York (Environmental Resources Engineering)
- Hadar Shimshon of Ra’anana, Israel (Environmental Science)
- Samantha Cavalier of Mount Sinai, New York (Environmental Studies)
- Savannah C. Wright of Rochester, New York (Landscape Architecture)
- Thomas Sherman of Frankfort, New York (Open Academy)
- Ashley Carter of Manlius, New York (Sustainable Resources Management)
Two students were awarded the Chancelor’s Award for Student Excellence. The students were Hadar Shimshon of Ra’anana, Israel and Alexandra Walls of Gambrills, Maryland.
