It may be close to summertime, but the Capital Region could see frost and freezing conditions overnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Below freezing temperatures could kill crops and outdoor plants without proper protection, Evbuoma said. Outdoor pipes such as sprinkler systems are also at risk of bursting. Pipes should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slower, the National Weather Service said.
A high-pressure system from Canada bringing cold, dry air will be a main contributor to the plummeting temperatures, Evbuoma said. Overnight lows normally hover around 50 degrees this time of year.
“It’s a quick shot of cold,” he said. “After that we’ll see temperatures moderate to normal levels, to even above-normal levels.”
Highs will be in the upper 60s to 70s for the rest of week, but it could get even warmer into the end of May, Evbuoma said.
