ALBANY – The Albany Empire of the National Arena League have found their next head coach – their fourth of the season.
Majority owner Antonio Brown confirmed Thursday night he is hiring Terry Foster, defensive coordinator with the Indoor Football League’s Iowa Barnstormers.
“I think he’s a football guy,” said Brown, who was at the Albany Patroons’ playoff game at the Armory. “He’s good in this environment. He’s hungry for an opportunity. I think he wants to get the Empire on track and I’m excited about it.”
Brown said Foster will arrive in Albany on Sunday. The Empire have a bye this week and play next Friday at the Orlando Predators.
WRGB (Ch. 6) first reported Foster’s hiring.
Foster succeeds Pete Porcelli, out after one game. a loss to Fayetteville last Saturday at MVP Arena. The Empire (1-5) are on a five-game losing streak and have already replaced head coaches Tom Menas (twice) and Damon Ware.
Brown was asked if he had any trouble convincing Foster to take the job given the high turnover.
“We’re looking for guys that are excited to be a part of this,” Brown said. “Albany Empire, championship culture, it’s not hard to make guys believe in what we’re doing.”
Foster, 48, did not return a phone message left for him at the Barnstormers offices. He joined the team during the second half of the season.
Foster, a Grand Valley State graduate, played wide receiver/defensive back for the Arena Football League’s Grand Rapids Rampage and arenafootball2’s Green Bay Blizzard.
He has head-coaching experience with the Detroit Thunder of the Continental Indoor Football League, the Arizona Outlaws of American Indoor Football and West Michigan ThunderHawks of the IFL, according to his LinkedIn page.
Porcelli said Sunday he was going to remain with the team as an advisor, but on…
