Motorcyclist dies after Liverpool man doesn’t see him, turns into his path, police say

Cape Vincent, N.Y. — A motorcyclist died Sunday after the driver of a Jeep crashed into a Harley Davidson motorcycle Sunday morning in Jefferson County, state police said.

Chris A. Farrell, 57, of Cape Vincent, was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Route 12E in Cape Vincent at 11:50 a.m. when a 2020 Jeep Cherokee turned into his path, troopers said in a news release.

Thomas Coughlin, 82, of Liverpool, was driving the Jeep Cherokee east on Route 12E and turned onto Bourcy Road without noticing Farrell on the motorcycle, state police said in the release.

Coughlin drove into the path of the motorcycle and Farrell was thrown from the Harley-Davidson, troopers said.

Farrell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers tested Coughlin after the fatal crash and said he “showed no signs of any alcohol or drug impairment.”

The investigation is continuing.
