The National Arena League is investigating a profane exchange on social media between Albany Empire majority owner Antonio Brown and Orlando Predators part-owner John Cheney.
Cheney criticized Brown’s management of the Empire. Brown fired back at Cheney and called the NAL a “trash league.”
“The league is gathering info on both items and will make a ruling in the coming day(s),” NAL commissioner Chris Siegfried texted. Both owners could face a fine.
It began with comments Cheney made this week during “Pred Talk,” a Predators talk show held at an Orlando restaurant. A Predators employee later posted the clip on Twitter.
“Albany’s coming into town… (Bleep) Albany,” Cheney said. “That’s all I’ve got to say. AB, all them, I don’t like anybody who messes with the league. This is the NAL. I’m not going to hold anything back. They know that. This is the NAL, National Arena League. You want to be an (expletive), go to another league, you know? Very, very nice guy when I met him and everything, for all the (expletive) that’s going on up there that we’re getting publicity for, they need to correct their house.”
Brown quote-tweeted the video clip with a salty response to Cheney.
“Pay the hotel bill u fat (expletive) report that talk about that u not following owners responsibility broke owners in the NAL trash league,” Brown tweeted.
Brown didn’t explain what he meant about the hotel bill. He didn’t respond to a text seeking comment. The Predators opened the season in Albany on April 16, a game the Empire won 70-33. Albany has lost five straight games since then.
During Brown’s three months as owner, the Empire have had four head coaches, including Moe Leggett, who makes his debut Friday. Former head coach Damon Ware and several players left the team in May after they said they were not paid.
