A proposed bill in the state legislature is set to alter the voting years for certain local positions, shifting from odd to even-numbered years.
The measure, if passed, would affect the terms for town supervisors, county executives, and a few other local roles, potentially requiring these officials to serve shortened terms to synchronize with the new even-year cycle.
The proposed legislative change, however, wouldnโt impact city elections or certain local posts.
The bill has already received approval from both the state assembly and the senate. It is now up for Gov. Kathy Hochulโs approval. The sponsors of the bill, who are Democrats, argue that the proposed changes would enhance voter turnout.
