Frankfort, N.Y. — A Herkimer County spa was raided after an investigation revealed the business was selling sex, state police said Monday.
State police on Friday executed a search warrant at Gina DM Spa, attached to the V-Ja’s Lounge at 307 E. Main St. in the village of Frankfort, troopers said in a news release.
A 53-year-old woman and a 55-year-old woman were arrested and charged with unauthorized practice of a profession, a felony. The 53-year-old also was charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor. (Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard is not publishing the names of those charged because they are possibly victims of sex trafficking.)
The investigation into the spa began in May when both Frankfort town police and state police received complaints of possible human trafficking at Gina DM Spa, state police said. Frankfort police contacted the state police Community Stabilization Unit to lead the investigation.
The spa is owned by Dongmei Xie, of Staten Island, according to a business certificate filed in November 2021.
The two women arrested are from Flushing, a neighborhood in Queens.
Business and other public records — like in this case and others tied to Central New York in recent years — have had ties to Flushing, a Queens neighborhood where many of the criminal organizations are headquartered.
The women charged in Herkimer County last week were issued appearance tickets and scheduled to answer the charges in Frankfort Town Court later this month.
