Former high-ranking city Department of Investigation official Daniel Cort has been confirmed by the state Senate as the new MTA inspector general.
Cort replaces Acting Inspector General Elizabeth Keating, who is expected to return to her job as head of the MTAโs audit division.
โI look forward to continuing the good work of the dedicated professionals at the MTA IGโs office who advance the MTAโs goal of a safer, more productive, and more financially secure institution for the public, the riders, and its labor force,โ Cort said in a statement.
An independent body created by then-governor Mario Cuomo in 1983, the MTA Office of the Inspector General monitors the transit agencyโs activities, programs, employees and spending through audits and investigations.
Cort was first deputy commissioner of the city Department of Investigation for four years, and led the DOI in an acting capacity from November 2021 through February 2022.
Earlier in this career, was the chief of the Attorney Generalโs Public Integrity Bureau, which is charged with prosecuting wrongdoing by judges and elected officials.
He came to the AGโs office after 19 years as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan, where he served in the Rackets Bureau and the Public Integrity Unit.
