Capital District YMCA hosted its annual African Heritage Parade to celebrate Juneteenth Saturday in Albany. The parade, organized by the YMCA in partnership with the African American Cultural Center of the Capital Region, began at Washington Park and proceeded east toward the African American Cultural Center of the Capital Region, at South Pearl Street and Madison Avenue. Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado was one of the notable people who marched. The goal of the parade is to create awareness of Juneteenth and celebrate the multicultural contributions granted to America from the vast African diaspora and the country’s rich African American history. The Y launched the annual parade in 2019.
