Mom pushing stroller struck by GrubHub delivery worker on speeding e-bike: NYPD

A GrubHub delivery driver on an electric bike slammed into a mom pushing her two-year-old in a stroller in a Manhattan intersection and then sped away, police said Friday.

Betsy Reed, 42, was crossing with the light at 8:30 a.m. at Park Place and Broadway by City Hall when the suspect, heading south on Broadway, struck them, throwing the toddler to the ground, police said.

The mother and son were treated at Bellevue Hospital for bruises and scratches. The boy suffered only a bruise on his head, his dad, Toby Niren, said.

โ€œThank God, nothing more serious,โ€ Niren said. โ€œEveryone is fine,โ€ added Nirens. โ€œThe Grubhub driver stopped for a second, my wife was cursing a little bit and said โ€˜Donโ€™t go anywhere.โ€™ And he said, โ€˜Iโ€™m going to park my bike. Iโ€™ll be right back.โ€™ And then he just fled.โ€

A Grubhub spokeswoman said the company is working to determine whether or not he works for the app driver.

Reed, a vice president of technology at an investment firm, and Nirens, who works in real estate, believe authorities need to crack down on reckless riders.

โ€œItโ€™s so dangerous at the moment with those e-bikes flying around everywhere. Going through red lights, the sidewalk and stuff. Weโ€™re lucky nothing worse happened this time,โ€ Nirens said.
