Cortland, N.Y. — A man and a woman were arrested hours after a bank robbery in Cortland Friday.
Daniel A. Thilburg, 53, and Angela M. Schmidt, 48, were charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy, according to a news release from Cortland police.
Around 11:53 a.m., a man wearing a blue New York Yankees hat and a dark blue sweatshirt slipped a note to a teller at Tompkins Trust Bank, 36 Main St., police said. The man — later identified as Thilburg — demanded money and left with several thousand dollars in cash, police said.
He fled in a white getaway car that was waiting for him a short distance from the bank, police said. Schmidt is suspected to be the driver of the getaway car, a four-door Mitsubishi.
Thilburg is currently being held at the Cortland County Jail, police said. Schmidt was released after her arraignment. Both with appear in Cortland City Court on June 28.
