No injuries in Brooklyn subway derailment

More than 200 subway passengers were evacuated after an L train partially derailed in Brooklyn, MTA officials said Monday.

No one was hurt in the Sunday night incident.

The Manhattan-bound train was pulling out of the first station on the L line, the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway stop, at 8:47 p.m. when it partially derailed.

The train โ€œwas crossing from one track to another when a single axle with two wheels left the track,โ€ MTA spokesman Tim Minton said. โ€œThis caused the fourth and fifth cars of the train to separate slightly, making it unsafe for passengers to walk between them.โ€

About 200 straphangers in the back of the train stepped off the train and onto the platform while eight others riding in the first four cars had to wait until another train pulled up alongside it, at which point they stepped onto that train and were taken one stop to the E. 105th St. station.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Full service is expected to be restored on the line Monday morning.
