NYPD: Man, 20, allegedly caught with drugs, scam devices and stolen credit cards on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities alleged that a probation officer uncovered drugs and items typically used for financial scams in the home of a 20-year-old man in New Brighton.

Amir Crawford was arrested in connection with the probation visit on May 26 around 8:50 a.m. inside the suspect’s home in the 100 block of York Avenue, according to the criminal complaint and police.

Authorities allegedly found two black skimming devices, about 16 blank credit cards and nine blank identification cards. Credit cards that belonged to two people also allegedly were confiscated by authorities, according to the criminal complaint.

The criminal complaint alleges that Crawford possessed the skimming devices and blank cards to use “in furtherance of the commission of the crime of identity theft or unlawful possession of personal identification information.”

Drugs allegedly confiscated included two clear bottles of green syrup identified by authorities as promethazine, an antihistamine. A plastic twist allegedly contained heroin in the form of a white powder, according to the criminal complaint.

Crawford has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of skimmer devices, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect has been released under supervision and is due back in Criminal Court on July 18.

An attorney for the suspect did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Information about the conviction that led to Crawford being on probation was not immediately available from authorities.
