The New York Mets (36-45) held a two-run lead heading into the sixth inning, but they gave up three unanswered runs and didnโt score again as they fell 3-2 to the Milwaukee Brewers (43-38) on Thursday night at Citi Field.ย
New York had two bases-loaded opportunities in the seventh and ninth but Starling Marte hit into an inning-ending double play in the seventh and struck out in the ninth to end the contest.
The Mets plated both of their runs in the third. Brett Baty smacked his fifth home run of the season and Brandon Nimmo went back-to-back with his eleventh.ย
Max Scherzer cruised through five shutout innings and then surrendered a game-tying homer to Victor Caratini. Despite the lone mistake, it was a positive outing for the right-hander.ย
TJ McFarland and Dominic Leone combined to give up the lead in relief.ย
The Mets will stay home and open a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday at 7:10 p.m.ย
