NY universities denounce Supreme Court decision on affirmative action

The leading universities in New York unanimously panned the U.S. Supreme Court decision Thursday that severely curtails affirmative action programs in college admissions but pledged to continue their efforts in building a diverse student body.

The decision, stemming from cases at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina, bars the use of explicit race-conscious criteria in admissions, though schools may still consider “an applicantโ€™s discussion of how race affected his or her life,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote.
