ALBANY — Mayor Kathy Sheehan, along with the Department of Recreation Commissioner Jonathan Jones, announced the opening of the city’s swimming pool and spray pads.
The Arbor Hill Community Center and the Mater Christi pools opened for the summer on Friday. Both pools are open daily from 1 p.m until 6:30 p.m.
The Albany High School pool will officially open Monday and its hours will be daily from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
As other local pools gear up for the summer, the Lincoln Park Pool will be closed this year and in 2024. The city anticipates the new pool to open for the 2025 summer season. In the meantime, the city is partnering with the Capital District Transportation Authority to provide residents with free bus passes in July and August so they may travel to other local pools. These include the Albany High School, Mater Christi and the Arbor Hill Community Center pools.
Spray pads also are open for the season at 10 of 11 locations, including Lincoln Park, daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Other parks with spray pads include: Black Lives Matter, Colonie Street, Hackett, Krank, North Swan Street, Ridgefield, Rosemont, Sheridan and Westland Hills.
The Swinburne Park spray pad is closed due to construction.
Additional precautions, such as capacity and visitor limits, also have been placed by the city, to be dictated by the number of lifeguards on duty. Also, the city pools are open only to Albany residents.
Residents must provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or school ID card, at their initial visit to be entered into the city’s REC system. After their initial visit, residents do not need to bring proof of residency.
More information is available at the city’s recreation website.
