Yankees blown out by Cardinals in Game 1 of doubleheader

The New York Yankees (45-37) were blown out by the St. Louis Cardinals (34-47), 11-4, in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday evening at Busch Stadium after two rain delays, one of which last two hours and 19 minutes.

Luis Severino could not build off his shutout performance from last week as he got lit up, allowing nine runs (seven earned) over four innings of work.

Three of New Yorkโ€™s four runs didnโ€™t come until the ninth. Oswaldo Cabrera drove in a run with a single and Jake Bauers crushed his seventh home run of the season.

The Yankees will try to bounce back and even the series in the nightcap. Ian Hamilton will take the ball in what will be a bullpen game. The first pitch is slated for 8:30 p.m.
