Police said a gun was found in a residential program student’s room


ALBANY – City police officers said they found a loaded 9mm handgun in a student’s room of a residential and counseling program for youths on Sunday night.

The gun was one of two police recovered in separate incidents, according to a news release.

The weapon was found just before 10 p.m. in a student’s room at La Salle School after staff reported seeing the gun in the boy’s room, police said. The 14-year-old was arrested and arraigned in county Family Court on one felony count of criminal possession of a weapon.

The La Salle School on Western Avenue provides a range of programs and services for teen boys, including residential programs.

A second handgun was recovered earlier that night after a man was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for an emergency.

The 41-year-old man had a 9mm handgun and heroin on him when he arrived at the hospital, police said. He was arraigned in city criminal court on several felonies.
