First responders rescue motorist from raging Tivoli stream

TIVOLI – Monday’s torrenttial downpours turned a Tivoli stream into a raging river and a motorist landing in the floodwaters.

The motorist was able to get on the roof of the vehicle but was unable to get to the shore due to the heavy current.

Tivoli firefighters responded to the scene and were able to make a quick rescue.

The patient was assessed by Tivoli EMTs as well as Northern Dutchess Paramedics before being transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie to be checked out.

The vehicle remained in the raging waters. A heavy wrecker from Hillsdale was called in and with the assistance of State Forest Ranger Aubrey Russo and members of the Rivoli Fire Department, they were able to make their way through the swift moving water to attach heavy duty straps and remove the vehicle from the stream.

The Red Hook Police Department and Hillsdale Repair assisted at the scene.
