National Baseball Hall of Fame to host TikTok-famous Savannah Bananas

COOPERSTOWN — On Sept. 16, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will play host to one of baseball’s most unique acts: the Savannah Bananas.

The Bananas — an exhibition team with more than 7 million followers on TikTok — boast that they “make baseball fun.” It’s easy to see why. Bananas players break out into choreographed dance routines in the middle of games. The team also plays under modified rules known as “Banana Ball.” Designed to make the game faster-paced, the rule changes cap games at two hours, ban players from bunting, and record outs if fans catch batted foul balls.

The game will showcase the Bananas playing their hometown rivals, the Savannah Party Animals, at Cooperstown’s Doubleday Field at 7 p.m. Sept. 16. A limited release of tickets will be available to museum members at 9 a.m. July 5. The remaining tickets will be available to the public on July 17 at thesavannahbananas.com/ontheroad.

Josh Rawitch, the president of the Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a statement that he looks forward to hosting the Bananas.

“The Museum celebrates baseball at every level, and the Bananas have become a sensation with their fun-first approach to the game,” Rawitch said. “We are thrilled to bring Banana Ball to the Hall and host them at the home of baseball. Fans of all ages from around the country, as well as right here in Cooperstown, are going to enjoy the unique show the Savannah Bananas bring to Doubleday Field.”

This is the first time that Doubleday Field will host the Bananas. The field is named after Abner Doubleday, a Cooperstown local who likely invented baseball in 1839.

“Doubleday Field is sacred ground when it comes to our national pastime,” said Bananas team owner Jesse Cole in a statement. “For us to be celebrated by the Hall of Fame and to bring Banana Ball, our newest version of baseball, to this park is beyond special.”
