CYO golf: Steven Barbarino, St. Joseph Hill take top honors at Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Memorial Tourney

The Bernstein Intermediate School’s Steven Barbarino was the overall win and St. Joseph Hill won the team competition at the annual Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Memorial CYO Grammar School Jr. Golf Tournament at Silver Lake Golf Course last week.

The 2023 tournament included 30 total golfers and 12 different schools overall, according to CYO County Director Mike Neely.

Barbarino, a 6th grader, finished with a score of 48. Hill’s Avery Beinert (64) and Blessed Sacrament’s Brady Boyle (58) won the 7th and 8th grade divisions, respectively.

Notre Dame Academy’s Victoria Palesino, meanwhile, placed first in the girls’ division with a 67.

Hill won the team competition behind Beinert, Luca Bagliore, Brendan Kelly and Vincent Mohan.

“Once again, we had another great day watching these kids perform on the links,’’ said Neely. “A lot of these kids, I’m sure, will play for years to come and it’ll be interesting to see how successful they become as they get older, but they’re already impressing at a young age.

“We’d like to thank the Teddy (Atlas) and the Atlas Foundation for supporting this event and CYO Jr. Golf Commissioner Matt Zuntag for organizing it. And, of course, we’re especially appreciative to the CYO Arhcdiocese of New York for allowing us to run such great programs.’’
