Schumer says feds owe local cops share of $16 million

NEW CITY – The US Justice Department owes several Hudson Valley police agencies their share of a $16.1 million case from 2019 and US Senator Charles Schumer came to Rockland County Wednesday to call for the release of the funds.

In April 2019 the DEA’s Westchester Tactical Diversion Squad Task Force helped crack the case against the Rochester Drug Cooperative resulting in the feds receiving that money and the senator said they need to “cut through the red tape for our local cops and pay these departments the partnership money they are owed because they’ve done the work well and in good faith.”

Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco said the officers in the task force agencies “have put their lives on the line to protect our communities and deserve an equitable share of seized assets for their time and effort.” He said it is “unacceptable we’ve waited for up to four years.”

While at the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office with officials of several law enforcement agencies, Schumer said the Justice Department “must swiftly process the payments and recognize the exceptional contributions of these Hudson Valley officers.”
