Jehovah’s Witnesses prepare for 3-day convention in Albany

ALBANY — Friday morning will be the first time in four years the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the area gather in such a large group for the annual 2023 convention, a three-day event taking place at the MVP Arena.

On Thursday afternoon, hundreds of volunteers from surrounding areas came to transform the venue into a place of worship. That includes a deep clean, painting, repairing seats and replacing lights and building a stage and huge video screens, “all done out of love and appreciation,” organizers said. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday as attendees return to welcome each other.

A major highlight of the convention weekend comes Saturday with a Christian baptism between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Baptism candidates have worked diligently to study the Bible and implement positive changes in order to have a complete heart toward God, according to church leaders.

Sunday’s activities include a public Bible discourse at 11:15 a.m. This “Exercise Patience” convention is not just for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Thousands have been invited to attend, free of charge, throughout the greater Albany area, as well as parts of Vermont and Massachusetts. The discourse, entitled “Will God Act in Your Behalf?” is designed for the public and is meant to address the desire of people for a better future.
