Yankees, Cubs announce lineups as Carlos Rodon debuts in the Bronx

Over four months and nearly 100 games into the regular season, Carlos Rodon will make his much-anticipated debut in the Bronx on Friday night when he takes the mound at Yankee Stadium for the first time in the series opener against the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m.

Rodon, who signed a six-year, $162 million contract to join the Yankees in late December, has yet to pitch in pinstripes due to multiple injuries that have sidelined him since spring training.

The 30-year-old has posted back-to-back seasons with double digits wins and a sub-2.90 ERA. Rodon finished third in MLB with 237 strikeouts in 2022 and sixth in the NL Cy Young voting as a member of the San Francisco Giants last season.

Rodon’s last start came on Sept. 29, 2022 and it was one of his best of that season. The two-time All-Star struck out 10 batters and didn’t allow a run or walk on two hits in a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The win gave him his 14th of the season, a career-high.

In two starts versus the Cubs last year, Rodon went 1-1 with a 1.46 ERA, a 21:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and just two runs allowed in 12 1/3 innings of work.

Ex-Yankee Jameson Taillon will be on the bump for the Cubs. After tying a career-high with 14 wins in the Bronx a year ago, it’s been a first half to forget for the 31-year-old. Taillon has surrendered four or more runs in nine of 14 starts and sports a 6.93 ERA, by far the highest in his seven-year career.
