Another Yankees outfielder lands on injured list

NEW YORK — Yankees outfielder Jake Bauers was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday afternoon with a left rotator cuff contusion.

Bauers hurt his shoulder while diving to his left on Wednesday night, trying to rob Orioles rookie Jordan Westburg of a hit. The outfielder lost the line drive in the lights as he lurched forward, a go-ahead triple in Baltimore’s 6-3 win.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed on Thursday night that Bauers received a cortisone shot as a result of the hard dive on the outfield grass. The skipper is hopeful Bauers won’t miss too much time, although his timetable won’t be clear until the injection does its work over the next few days.

“I know in just speaking with him in the last hour, he felt significantly better already today, just in how he’s able to move around,” Boone said on Friday afternoon. “He was pretty sore yesterday waking up.”

Replacing Bauers on the active roster is Franchy Cordero. Cordero was hitting .345 with a 1.083 OPS in 34 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year.

Left-hander Carlos Rodón was also added to the active roster for his season debut on Friday, reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Lefty Nestor Cortes was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL to make room for Rodón, meaning Cortes won’t be back from his shoulder strain until early August.

Bauers, 27, has been one of the Yankees’ primary corner outfielders this season, playing virtually every game since Aaron Judge landed on the injured list. The lefty is batting .224 with a .782 OPS and seven home runs in 49 games.

In Bauers’ absence, expect Oswaldo Cabrera, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Billy McKinney to continue to receive playing time in the corner outfield spots, with designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton mixed in as well. Bauers joins Judge (toe), Greg Allen (hip flexor) and Willie Calhoun (quad) on the injured list.
