The New York Yankees (48-41) offense was completely shut down in a 3-0 series-opening loss to the Chicago Cubs (41-46) at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.
Former Yankee Jameson Taillon tossed eight innings of one-hit ball. Gleyber Torres (single in the first) and Franchy Cordero (single in the ninth) had the only hits. New York did not have a single baserunner reach second base.
Carlos Rodón made his first start in pinstripes and allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings while walking two and striking out two.
Ron Marinaccio gave up a run while Ian Hamilton, Tommy Kahnle, and Clay Holmes had scoreless outings.
The Yankees will try to snap a three-game skid on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. with Gerrit Cole on the bump.
