The Auburn Fire Department successfully managed a fire at a vacant building that had begun to threaten a neighboring residence late Thursday night.
First responders say they were returning from another call when they spotted smoke across the Arterial. Upon investigating, they discovered the fire at the empty building on 7 Church St. around 11:57 p.m., which was starting to encroach on the residence at 5 Church St.
Clark reported that most of the fire was brought under control within approximately 10 minutes of the fire departmentโs arrival. Some damage occurred to the vinyl siding of the neighboring building at 5 Church St., but Clark emphasized no one was hurt, and the residence remains livable.
The origin of the fire is currently under investigation. In addition to the Auburn Fire Department, Auburn Police Department, Auburn City Ambulance, the cityโs Code Enforcement Office, and the Cayuga County 911 center were also involved in managing the scene.
