Police in Brooklyn have arrested a homeless man for the harrowing attempted rape of a woman on a Bushwick street.
Investigators caught up with suspect Oscar Vallejo, 38, in Crown Heights on Friday afternoon and charged him with attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment, assault, and sex abuse for the random June 26 attack.
The attempted sexual assault happened as the victim was walking near the corner of Broadway and Macon St. in Bushwick at about 10:20 p.m.
Thatโs when a man that police identified as Vallejo rolled up on his scooter.
He got off, grabbed the woman and told her to be quiet, according to the NYPD.
Vallejo then tried to rip off his victimโs skirt, knocking her to the ground, cops said. The woman cut her hands in the fall.
The victim managed to run away from her attacker and wasnโt further harmed. She refused medical attention when police were called.
Vallejo jumped back on his scooter and sped off before cops arrived, according to police.
Vallejo lives at a menโs shelter in Brooklyn, cops say.
The would-be rapist has prior arrests for attempted assault, menacing, and burglary, police said.
