The City of Ithaca has begun its search for a city manager, a position that will play a central role in the city’s transition to a new governance structure starting in 2024.
The Common Council unanimously approved the creation of this position, deferring the decision on salary to a later date, according to reporting last week by the Ithaca Voice.
This follows a November 2022 referendum where residents approved the transition to a city manager form of governance.
In this new structure, the city manager will oversee city functions, a role previously held by the mayor’s office. Mayor Laura Lewis indicated that the city manager’s salary would likely surpass that of the current chief of staff.
