A zoo in Texas has announced the death of its 31-year-old giraffe, Twiga. The female Masai giraffe was believed to be the oldest giraffe in captivity, according to the zoo.

Twiga was born at the Los Angeles Zoo in October 1991 and was nearly 32 years old when she died Friday night in Lufkin, Texas, the Ellen Trout Zoo said in a statement on Facebook.

The zoo said giraffes typically live about 25 years.

Before arriving in Lufkin, Twiga also spent time at the Racine Zoo in Wisconsin.
