The Mets entered the All-Star break with a 42-48 record in fourth place in the NL East.
That leaves half of the season left to play to what is expected of the club with the league-leading payroll. One thing could be advantageous to the Mets for this second half, though, according to Pete Alonso.

โWeโre going to have home-field advantage in the second half,โ the first baseman said, via SNY. โItโs going to be nice to play in front of our home fans and not log as much travel hours,. Not to make an excuse, but traveling a ton, especially crossing time zones, can be pretty hurtful over the course of time. Itโs going to give us a chance to be more rested and ready to go.โ
Of the 72 games left on the Metsโ schedule, 42 will be played at Citi Field.
โClearly not the first half we were looking for but we had a great week before the All-Star break, going 4-2 against high-quality teams,โ Alonso said, per SNY. โWe needed to have a good week before the break and I feel itโs going to springboard us into the second half … โEvery day, whether youโre doing well or not, thereโs always a sense of urgency, itโs the big league. Everyoneโs a professional, everyone takes pride in what they do. We have a really talented bunch. For us, having everyone healthy is great. Itโs a long season. We still have half the season left to play. Weโre extremely talented and weโre going to do everything we can to make the playoffs. And then do some damage to make it further than we did last year.โ
