New York State civil service: These applications are open in July

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Civil Service (DCS) has released its July application schedule for New York’s entry-level civil service exams.

The open-competitive exams are an opportunity to start a career with New York State. These tests are open to anyone who meets the qualifications listed on the examination announcement.

The application period opened for the following exams: assistant workers compensation examiner; assistant workers compensation examiner (Spanish language); business services center representative 1; employee insurance examiner 1; workers compensation examiner; workers compensation examiner (Spanish language).

Interested applicants can apply online by Aug. 14. Visit www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/types/oc to apply for exams.

The testing will be held as online exams due by Aug. 28. Some careers offer an additional annual downstate adjustment if they work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester Counties.

According to the state, an application must be submitted online or postmarked by the last date to apply. An application will not be accepted after the application filing deadline has passed. There are no application fees for the exams this month.

To be considered for appointment, you must pass the written test.

If approved for a written test, you will receive an admission notice which will indicate your assigned test date and the way your test will be administered. Your test may be administered with paper and pencil or online at a state test site using a state-provided Chromebook. You cannot request to change your scheduled day or request a specific type of test administration.

All positions offer benefits, including paid leave, health benefits and retirement plans. In addition, telecommuting options may be available to employees who meet certain criteria.
