State Sen. John Mannion enters Congressional race for 22nd District seat

New York State Senator John Mannion, a Democrat, has officially launched his 2024 campaign for Congress, seeking to represent New Yorkโ€™s 22nd Congressional District, a seat currently held by Republican Brandon Williams.

The Central New York district spans Onondaga, Madison, and Oneida counties and a portion of Oswego County. Mannion is the second Democrat to declare for the race, joining Sarah Klee Hood, a DeWitt town councilor, in vying for the partyโ€™s nomination.

Before entering politics, Mannion spent nearly three decades as a public school teacher and union president. He won his state Senate seat in 2020 after an initial failed bid in 2018. In Albany, Mannion chaired the Senate Committee on Disabilities.

If Mannion secures the Democratic nomination, his face-off against Williams could draw significant attention, given the districtโ€™s balanced political composition and its potential impact on House control.
