The Jamesville Park Beach is closed for swimming after health officials said Friday that an algal bloom was found in the water.
The beach will be reopened after sampling of the water can confirm there are no toxins, according to a news release by the Onondaga County Health Department.
Other park amenities will remain open for normal business hours, officials said.
Algal blooms can turn the water green and can form thick surface scums on the water. Certain types of algae can release toxins that may cause skin or eye irritation, or diarrhea and vomiting if ingested. Experts recommend:
- Donโt swim, wade, boat, or fish near blooms and donโt eat fish caught from waters with blooms.
- Donโt drink the water.
- Keep children and animals away from any blooms.
- Rinse with clean water if exposed to blooms.
Onondaga County recommends for updates on county beaches to visit the parks departmentโs website or call the Division of Environmental Health at 315-435-6600.
