Yankees, Rockies lineups announced for Friday series opener

The Yankees will look to start off the second half of the regular season on a positive note as they begin a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies tonight at 8:40 p.m. at Coors Field.

New York (49-42, 4th in AL East), struggled to the All-Star Break as it lost six of its last 10 games with series losses to two NL Central ball clubs in the St. Louis Cardinals Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.

Carlos Rodon take the mound for the first time on the road as a member of the Bronx Bombers. He took the loss in his Pinstripes debut as he allowed only two runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched but got no run support in a 3-0 defeat versus the Cubs on July 7.

As a member of the San Francisco Giants last season, Rodon won two of three starts and had a 27:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio against the Rockies.

Five-year veteran Austin Gomber gets the ball for Colorado. While it’s been another down season for the Rockies (34-57, 5th in NL West), Gomber’s been one of the more recent bright spots. Despite a 6.40 ERA, the left-hander has won three consecutive starts and has the most wins out of any starter on the team (7). Since June 25, the team lost eight of nine contests that Gomber didn’t pitch.
