Following severe flooding in Ontario County, County Administrator Chris DeBolt stated on Friday that millions in damages have been accrued, affecting both private and public properties.
In response, Governor Kathy Hochul has requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to secure federal financial assistance for recovery efforts.
The declaration would enable the county, along with 11 other affected counties across the state, to receive funds from FEMAโs Public Assistance Program. Additionally, Hochul requested expedited damage assessment and federal assistance for homeowners in Ontario County.

DeBolt detailed the current situation in Ontario County, estimating approximately $5 million required for public road and bridge repairs and โmultiple millionsโ for residential repairs.
In preparation for additional rain over the weekend, officials have urged residents to remain cautious and have provided sandbags in the hardest-hit neighborhoods.
Furthermore, a Flood Information Center will open on Monday, July 17 at the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce office. Despite the damage, power has been restored to almost all households in the county, and some local beaches have reopened.
