Man charged with shooting at car in Salina

Salina, N.Y. — A 48-year-old man was arrested after firing shots at a car Friday in Salina over a long-time dispute with the carโ€™s owner, according to a spokesperson for the sheriffโ€™s office.

Around 6:42 a.m., deputies responded to reports of shots fired on Beechwood Avenue in Salina, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

A man had fired at least three shots at a car and appeared to hit two separate cars, said Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriffโ€™s Office. No one was injured.

As deputies were arriving, they saw a car fleeing, Newton said.

As they investigated they found that the suspect, Shane Mariano, and the property owner were in a long-term dispute, Newton said.

Mariano was later found at his home and arrested for firing the gun, Newton said.

While deputies were at his home they also discovered five pounds of marijuana, ecstasy pills packaged for sale and a small quantity of heroin, Newton said.

Marino was charged with the following:

  • Criminal use of a firearm
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Criminal possession of marijuana
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Mariano is currently being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center jail.
