MORRISTOWN โ The Morristown Public Library is hosting the 2023 Bell Gale Chevigny Plein Air Art Festival on Aug 3-6 with a gala silent auction on Sunday, Aug. 6 at Bella-Brooke Vineyard and Winery in Hammond.
This yearโs Plein Air festival involves 25 talented artists from four states โ New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Jersey โ as well as international artists from Ontario and Quebec.
Over three days, the artists will paint multiple landscape pictures around Morristown, highlighting the natural beauty of the St. Lawrence River and Black Lake.
Despite the challenges of time and place, the painters will allow quiet visitors to watch them work. On Saturday during the libraryโs Annual Book Sale all 25 artists will be within the hamlet with their easels.
The complete schedule for the weekend:
โข Thursday, Aug. 3 โPlein Air artists arrive. A list of all those registered, their websites, and samples of their work available at the library website www.morristownpubliclibrary.org .
โข Saturday, Aug. 5 โVisits to painting sites. 9 a.m.to noonโAnnual Morristown Public Library Book Sale at the library, 200 Main St.
โข Sunday, Aug. 6 โ Noon. Silent Auction and Artistsโ Reception, Bella-Brooke Vineyard and Winery, 2989 County Route 6, Hammond. Participating artistsโ works, judged by renowned North Country artist Pam Winchester of Hammond, will be available for sale through silent bids. Music and refreshments will be available in the Vineyardโs air-conditioned Frontenac Room. 2 p.m. A brief Awards and dedication ceremony. 3 p.m. Closing of the auction. Collectors with the highest bid begin the check-out process. The library has purchased 2 credit card readers to meet the sales demand but it is highly recommended that collectors bring their checkbooks to avoid the long lines.
