Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse native Nathan Knight will sign a two-way contract with the New York Knicks, according to multiple media reports.
Knightโs deal was initially reported by Amil Gogna, who works for an athlete management firm. It was confirmed on social media by Stefan Bondy, the New York Knicks beat reporter with the New York Daily News.
Two-way contacts in the NBA allow players with four years of experience or less to spend part of the season in the G-League and part of it in the NBA. A two-way contract for the 2023-24 season is worth just under $560,000.
This season will be Knightโs fourth in the NBA. He played his rookie year with the Atlanta Hawks and the past two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Knight has played between 30 and 40 NBA games during each of those year.
He played limited minutes for the third straight season last year but did put up improved shooting numbers during those opportunities. In 38 NBA games he averaged 7.7 minutes and 3.7 points, while shooting career-high percentages from the field (56.8 percent) and from 3-point range (36.4 percent).
Listed at 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, Knight is capable of filling in minutes at both the power forward and the center positions.
He seems like a good fit on the Knicks, who utilize a pair of big men in their starting lineup, matching center Mitchell Robinson and power forward Julius Randle.
Knightโs journey from Syracuse to a fourth-year NBA player is a remarkable one that included a stop at prep school to work himself into shape and a four-year college career at William & Mary, where he blossomed into a star and helped an afterthought program to some of the best seasons in its history.
