The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large chunk of Central New York, including several counties in the Finger Lakes.
Cayuga, Seneca, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties are included in the watch, which is valid until 8 p.m.
The main threat with these thunderstorms that have already started firing is wind gusts and frequent lightning.
The greatest risk for more widespread thunderstorm activity is off to the east of the Finger Lakes. However, there will likely be spotty thunderstorm activity until nightfall. So, plan outdoor activity accordingly.
