Lawmakers on both sides say more staffing needed at NY’s northern border

A bipartisan push for enhanced resources and staffing at the U.S.-Canadian border has been initiated by two New York House lawmakers, Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik and Democratic Rep. Brian Higgins.

In a letter addressed to Customs and Border Protection, they emphasized the need for additional resources at entry points to manage border crossings more efficiently.

The lawmakers’ call to action comes amidst a bustling summer travel season, which has seen an uptick following the lifting of pandemic-era restrictions.

Lawmakers from upstate and western New York have expressed concerns over border staffing for years, noting the reassignment of some officers to the Mexican border.
