State legislation proposes mail-in early voting

Recently passed legislation in Albany may grant New York voters the ability to cast their ballots early by mail in state elections.

The legislation applies to general, primary, and special elections, pending Governor Kathy Hochulโ€™s approval.

Opposing voices question the legislationโ€™s contribution to voting accessibility. They further critique the legislation as a way to bypass existing constitutional limitations on mail voting, which currently requires absentee ballots for circumstances such as military duty or out-of-state travel during election time.
