ESL Federal Credit Union has issued an alert to its members concerning a text message phishing scam. ESL operates bank branches in Canandaigua, Newark, and Victor here in the Finger Lakes, as well as an array of locations in the Rochester-area.
In a tweet released Friday, ESL reported that certain members had received phishing links embedded within text messages, mimicking the ones typically sent by ESL to confirm debit card transactions.
Members are being urged not to engage with these links.
Those who may have interacted with the link, or who have queries regarding unusual communications, are encouraged to contact ESLโs fraud team directly at 585-336-1140. According to ESL, they would never request members to click on links within text messages for verification purposes or solicit any personal information.
