Pittsford, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins pondered for a moment whether he wanted to start some trash talk after Tuesday’s training camp practice. The defensive line had a dominant day and Dawkins was asked about how it happened.
“Do I start sh**-talking?” Dawkins wondered aloud. “I think I’ll start sh**-talking, right.”
Ed Oliver was unblockable no matter who he was lined up against. He had one sack where guard Connor McGovern had no chance. It was as if Oliver was back at the defensive line huddle before anybody knew what happened. Edge rusher Leonard Floyd was firing off the edge like he was shot out of a cannon, giving third-year right tackle Spencer Brown fits.
Dawkins admitted the defensive line showed up to play on Tuesday, but also insinuated that they were forced into it with the way the offensive line has played through the first five days of camp.
“We’ve been kicking their butt,” Dawkins said. “They come out with a little fire and sometimes they win. That’s the beauty of having a team that you can grow with. … But the beauty of it is we’re getting better.”
Brown had a few strong reps in 2-on-2 during the individual period, but he mostly struggled in team drills. The 6-foot-8 lineman has been a strong performer in camp so far and just seemed to lose his way as the pass rush intensified with the coaches setting up the offense in 3rd-and-long for most of the practice.
Tim Settle missed practice with a groin injury that popped up during Monday’s practice. That allowed the Bills to use Greg Rousseau and Boogie Basham on the inside on a few reps with the first team. Rousseau had a strip-sack and continues his strong camp.
