Yankees place Anthony Rizzo on injured list with concussion symptoms

The New York Yankees placed veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo on the injured list due to concussion symptoms, the club announced Thursday.

Manager Aaron Boone spoke to reporters and said Rizzoโ€™s concussion likely stems from when he collided with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. during a game in late May.

Boone added that the Yankees will evaluate Rizzo on a week-to-week basis as he goes on a regimen of supplements as well as visual and video exercises to treat the cognitive impediment.

Rizzo has struggled since the beginning of June, hitting just .171/.271/.225 with one home run and nine RBIs over 46 games.

Oswaldo Cabrera was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Rizzoโ€™s spot on the roster.
