BRISTOL, Conn. — Massapequa Coast, L.I. the team which ousted South Shore Little League in the New York State Tournament, won its Metro Region Tournament 12-year-old All-Star Baseball Tournament opener Saturday.
MC topped Smithfield, R.I., 10-1, behind the pitching of Ryan Land.
MC advanced to Monday’s winner’s bracket finale of the four-team, double-elimination tourney against East Hanover of New Jersey, which topped East Lyme, Conn., 3-0, on Saturday.
If MC wins Monday it will advance to Friday night’s winner-take-all title game. A win there will put it in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. from Aug. 16 to Aug. 27.
On Saturday, Land allowed one run in 4 ²/₃ innings. He also belted a two-run double in Massapequa’s seven-run fifth inning.
