Wurtsboro man talked out of tree

ROCK HILL – State DEC forest rangers assisted in convincing a despondent man down from a tree in the Neversink River Unique Area.

The incident unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. on August 3 when Forest Rangers Quinones and Schweider responded to a call for a despondent man approximately 20 feet up a tree. He did not answer when search crews called out to them.

The man then climbed an another 40 to 50 feet up the tree.

The Sullivan County Crisis Negotiation Team and a friend joined responders at the scene at 11 p.m.

The man eventually climbed down the tree at 12:15 a.m. and Rock Hill firefighters, rangers, and Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies walked the man to the trailhead where he was taken by Rock Hill EMS to the hospital.
