Seneca Lake has witnessed an early start to the Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) season this year.
The Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association reported that numerous blooms commenced on July 28, with 13 confirmed HABs by August 3. These blooms predominantly surfaced along the lakeโs east side.
To keep the public informed, Pure Waters has enhanced its alert system to send out text notifications upon confirmation of a HAB. Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant, as HABs can materialize anywhere on the lake, especially on calm days.
Those suspecting a bloom can document it with a photo, detailing their location, and email the association or call the designated HABs hotline for reporting.
