Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football linebacker Marlowe Wax has hit a hat trick for preseason award watch lists.
Wax was one of 80 players named to the watch list for the Lombardi Award on Tuesday, alongside 10 other players from the ACC.
The Lombardi Trophy goes to an offensive or defensive lineman, tight end or linebacker who best displays the character and values of NFL Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi. The player must also excel in on-field performance.
Wax is a team captain for Syracuse this fall. He led the Orange last year in tackles with 91, and also had 4.5 sacks, seven QB hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Some of the other players on the list from within the ACC include Duke offensive tackle Graham Barton, Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter, Florida State offensive guard D’Mitri Emmanuel and Wake Forest offensive guard Michael Jurgens.
A midseason watch list will be released Oct. 13. Semifinalists will then be announced Nov. 1, followed by a group of four finalists on Nov. 15. The Lombardi Award winner will be presented Dec. 6.
Wax has also been named to the preseason watch lists for the Butkus Award and the Bednarik Award.
