There was another shark sighting at Jones Beach, but there was no cause for alarm for this one.
A day after the LIU women’s soccer team had its first exhibition game of the preseason, the Sharks headed for Jones Beach last week for some oceanside conditioning.
Under the direction of strength and conditioning coach Preston Scott, the student-athletes went through an hour of cardio work in the sand.
The home opener is set for Sunday, August 27 with UMBC.

LIU’s football team is headed to CBS Sports Network in prime time. LIU’s football game at Central Connecticut State has been picked up by CBS Sports Network and will air Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The game had originally been scheduled for Oct. 28. Long-time play-by-play announcer Paul Dottino returns to the broadcast booth alongside color analyst Kevin Gilbride, a two-time Super Bowl champion coach.
Other LIU games will be available on NEC Front Row.

The 2023 New Utrecht Football Hall of Fame inductees will be enshrined during Alumni Day, Oct. 14.
The 1958 city championship team and the 1973 undefeated squad will enter the Hall. Other inductees include:
- Tony Rubilotta, Running Back, 1952- ‘55, Captain, All-City, Second Team. He finished second in scoring in the PSAL in 1955.
- Anthony Ricciardi, Offensive and Defensive Tackle, 1955-’58. All-City Tackle. He blocked for New York City’s top running back, Al Leibowitz, as the Utes won the 1958 City title. He played college football at Indiana.
- Charles Ciccarelli, Defensive Back, Running Back, 1957-’59, Coach ’70-’76. A member of the 1958 City Championship team. He won multiple “Silver Skates” golds in speed skating at Madison Square Garden, while in high school. He was head coach for the Utes in 1976. He also coached the New…
